The next meeting of the LRBC will
be held on June 12th at 7:30 p.m. at the Pontiac Library,
Greenwich Ave., Warwick, RI
The speaker for this evening will be Matt King who
will present the program on "Crockery". Matt is very
knowledgable in this area so it should prove to be an
interesting night. You can participate, too. Just bring
in those pieces and shards for Show & Tell.

- May
Meeting
- The
May meeting kind of surprised a few people as Elections
were held. Usually, elections are held in April but because
of a very poor showing of members that night, it was decided
to postpone until the following month. It really didn't
matter as the current officials were re-elected across
the board with no contenders. Hey, there's a surprise.
The only positions we will have to fill will be the program
directors as the current ones are no longer able to continue
in that capacity.
- Five
members were appointed as Show Co-Chairpersons: Art Pawlowski,
Pam Sroka, Rob Fahey, Maureen Kelliher, and Dave Andrews.
Each member will have a specific task or tasks to handle,
eliminating the time consuming job that has been the bane
of past chairpersons who had to do everything by themselves.
Eric Corriea, most recent past chairperson, could no longer
handle the tasks associated with the show because of his
business obligations. He had done a good job for a number
of years but it became increasingly difficult for him
to do what needed to be done concerning the show. Ah,
the joys of owning your own business.
-
- Membership
Drive
- Rob
Fahey made several suggestions for increasing membership
in the club. One was setting up a table at the Rocky Hill
Flea Market and handing out flyers and information to
promote the club and our function in the hobby. Rob has
been on a mission to add new members and comes up with
new ways to try to accomplish that.
- Another
suggestion Rob had didn't have to do with recruiting new
members per se, but was an idea for a monthly meeting.
He suggested having an "Appraisal Night" where members
and non-members could bring in bottles and such and have
their value estimated. This could lead to new members
but the idea would have to be hyped in the papers and
maybe even on the Cox public channel.
- And
another suggestion came from Bill Ladd who said the North
Kingstown Library has some display cases which they allow
other groups and organizations to use and promote their
interests. It might be a worthwhile endeavor to collect
a grouping of RI bottles and information to put on display.
It could also lead to new members and at the least let
people know we exist.

- Summer
Picnic
- Stanley
Sorrentino has graciously offered to hold the club cookout
and picnic next month at his property at 9 Montana Road,
Little Compton. We have a decent amount in the checking
account and it was voted that the club provide the burgers,
hotdogs and all the fixin's as well as soft drinks.
- The
date of the event is Saturday, July 21st with a rain date
of the next day, Sunday the 22nd.
- Here
is part of an email Stanley sent to Pam and Art with the
time and directions to his home:
-
- Pam
& Art,
-
- Reconfirming
dates for club trip to Little Compton on Saturday
July 21 with Sunday 22nd as rain date. I guess we
left it that the club would buy hot dogs & hamburgers
for everyone. My address where everyone is going to
meet is 9 Montana Road. Phone number is the same as
my other house here 635-2120 in case anyone gets lost.
We plan to meet 10AM - 10:30AM then go by car on a
trip around town to places you couldn't find without
a local guide. The tour will also include a stop at
the cemetary where the first white girl born in New
England is buried, views of the ocean from various
hidden spots as well as our gardens & garage,
the outside of our other house and my bottle collection
in the green house & garage. Of course I am proud
of my bottle terrace located at 9 Montana Road where
the cook out will be held.
- Directions
to 9 Montana Road: From Providence take 195 to
Fall River then Rte. 24 towards Newport. In Tiverton
take exit 5 (after Fish Road) which will say Little
Compton Route 77 & 177. At the end of the exit
is The Sakonnet Bay Manor formerly The Coachman Restaurant.
Turn left and follow Rte. 77 until you see the water
ahead at the bottom of a hill. Turn left following
77. It is 10 minutes from there to a stop light at
Tiverton 4 Corners. Grays Ice Cream will be on the
far left and Provender on the near right. Go straight
through the light staying on 77 for another 10 minutes
passing Sakonnet Vineyards on the left then Walkers
Fruit Stand on the right, then Meeting House Lane
on the left. Stay on 77 past the golf course on the
right. The next curve to the right will be The Stone
House Club on the left. Montana Road will be about
100 yards on the right. No street sign but our mail
box is the first of a group on the right with SORRENTINO
on the top. If you go past the yacht club you've gone
too far. Our house is the third one on the right,
#9 with a flag pole flying the American Flag.
-
- All
paid club members, including spouses and children, are
welcome and encouraged to attend. Please contact Pam Sroka
before July 14th at 401-647-3585 or email her at pjdiggs@aol.com
or blobtops@aol.com
and let her know how many people are coming. See you there!

Caswell Mack bottle on eBay
- The
online auction house eBay has been a little slow
lately. I don't mean the site itself but the quality
and even the quantity of bottles on for auction.
Normally this would be a good time for buying and
selling but it appears the economy has got some
people worried and they are holding onto their money.
- The
exceptions to the rule are bottles such as this.
- A
previously unknown RI bottle surfaced and bidding
showed exactly what dealers and collectors thought
of it. This exceptional CASWELL / MACK &
CO. // N.Y. & N.P. is in a beautiful
violet color. The color is enhanced as you can see
through it and not as dark as it's larger relative,
the better known CASWELL / MACK / & CO. /
OMNIA VINCIT LABOR, etc. example. The shape
is square with bevelled corners and the dimensions
are 2-5/8" h x 15/16" w.
- How
much did it go for? How about $85.00! Pretty good
for a small RI bottle, don't you think?
