Internet Newsletter Of The Little Rhody Bottle Club

May 2002

This page is updated about the 1st week of the month

The next meeting of the Little Rhody Bottle Club will be held on
May 14th at 7:30 PM at the Pontiac Library, 101 Greenwich Ave., Warwick.

The evening's program looks like it will be a free for all. Nothing definite was planned so here's what we're gonna do. One massive Show & Tell will entertain and enthrall all of you so show up or I'll come to your house and drag you kicking and screaming into the night. Show & Tell will be Your Specialty so bring in your stuff and give a mini presentation.

Club News

April Meeting by Pam Pawlowski
We probably had the most people in attendance at an election meeting than ever in the past, but everything stayed the same. Art Pawlowski will remain as President, Rob Fahey will stay as VP, Steve Bergquist will keep the Treasurer's position, and Pam Pawlowski will continue as Secretary and Newsletter Editor. Also, Julie Narcovich volunteered to take on the Librarian duties, filling that long vacant spot.
A move to donate $100 to the library was voted on and passed unanimously.
There were 2 guests in attendance, Joe Cannon, whom Arthur and I had met before because he had found some bottles while diving. I have been trying to get him to come to the meetings but he is in the reserves and has been very busy. Also, Ed Greer brought a neighbor of his, Bob Hutchinson.

New Members by Pam Pawlowski
We have a new member! Actually, it's a new family that joined the club, David and Roseann Thatcher. David was our guest speaker for the evening, giving the presentation on Metal Detecting. The Little Rhody Bottle Club would like to welcome you into our little world of bottle collecting!

Thank You by Pam Pawlowski
I would like to thank the club for the flowers you gave me after my surgery. It certainly was a bright spot in my day to see Pearl and the beautiful flowers! Pearl brought them to the house after I got home. It was very thoughtful, thank you everyone!

Show Report - Little Rhody by Matt King
I can only speak for myself and what I saw, but it seemed like a pretty good show to me. I know the strong stuff sold well! Slump in the economy? Not at the top.
It was a well run, well attended show with decent merchandise. The internet has unquestionably hurt bottle shows but the Little Rhody show seemed alive and well!
Highlights: USA Hospital with a "Cannabis Indica" label - $375; cathedral pickle, light green - $475; best Stoddard Washington-Jackson - $325

Show Report - Enfield by Matt King
This show has proven to be one of the best "little" bottle shows in New England. They had a very good gate. The merchandise was not as strong as previous years (honestly, where is it?) but the crowd didn't seem to mind. They came, they saw, they bought! It's a hard show (for dealers) to get into but the sales are always good here.
Highlights: Willington Eagle pint flask, o.p. - $350; Ca, 1780 free blown olive jar with original pewter lid - $1300; chestnut flask with a medicine lip - $375; Cranberry swirl barber's bottle - $275
Website Update by Dave Andrews
A number of behind the scenes changes have been made to the website in the past month and a half. Along with any changes come the inevitable problems including the dreaded Error 404 - File Not Found messages.
Because the site has grown so large, and with the likelihood that it will continue to grow, it has become necessary to do a major restructuring. This entails moving quite a few files containing text , pictures, etc. into new areas or folders. Such moves may cause temporary problems resulting in errors such as the 404 message.
If you encounter error messages, please report them to me at dandrews@littlerhodybottleclub.com as soon as possible.
The new program I am using allows me to check all links and code before actual uploading and publishing occurs. That doesn't mean that problems can't happen on the other end and with over 600 pages comprising the Little Rhody Bottle Club website, there are bound to be some less than optimal occurrences. I would like to take care of such problems but need you to let me know they are happening. What looks okay to me might not be okay for you when you view a page so let me know about them!
New Additions To The Bottle Book by Dave Andrews
Over 100 "new" bottles will be added to the online book thanks to the efforts of Russ Archambault. Russ is a collector of all kinds of Woonsocket items and has a number of bottles from that city. So far he has brought a dozen or so crates of bottles to me to be catalogued and photographed. About sixty new additions have already been added to the book and are viewable online. But there's still more to come, so keep checking in!
