Club News

Playing Catch Up by Dave Andrews
This month covers both the September and October meetings. I would also like to dispel the rumors about me that have been circulating through the club.
1. I have not moved out of state.
2. I have not been placed in the Witness Protection Program.
3. I have not been committed to a mental hospital.
4. I am not dead.
5. And finally, no. I did not get a job.
September Meeting by Julie Narcovich
The September meeting was a presentation on "ACL Sodas" by Art Pawlowski. As is custom for this month, Show & Tell was "Summer Finds".
The meeting began at 7:40 pm and our president Art started things off with a new book for our library. What a beautiful book it is! Come in to the meeting and check it out.
We spoke about upcoming shows which are listed at the end of this newsletter. There was a debate about what time to let dealers in (our show in January) and show times. You will note in our new bottle show contract that some times have changed and the cost of tables went up to $25.00. The contract will no longer be given out at Keene as in the past years. The ribbon (AB&GC) that is usually given to the best bottle will no longer happen at the show. All of these issues were voted on at the meeting.
We will not have access to the closed kitchen at 2003's show.
Jan Boyer and his guests, Mark and John, brought in some great summer finds as did Rob Fahey, myself, Stanley Sorrentino,, and John and Donna Longo. John and Donna brought in a rare paper labeled bottle of Phosa Beverages. What a find!!
October Meeting by Julie Narcovich
October's meeting got under way at 7:45 pm. We started off by congratulating our newest members, Mark Bryant and Greg Dean. Mark recently dig his first privy and Greg collects potlids and cast iron banks. They both brought in a sample of their collections. Art, our president, Rob Fahey, our VP, Bill Rose, Russ Archambault, Greg Dean, Mark Bryant, Bob Lanpher, David Thatcher, and my self brought in some RI bottles and poisons and a few Chelmsford finds. Art also brought in a new book (for the library) which I forgot to write down the title for.

Holiday / Christmas Party by Julie Narcovich
David Thatcher came up with a great idea to have our Christmas party at the Quidnessett Country Club. But, as Art noted, it is a little pricey there. If you would like to vote to go there or save the club budget a bit and pick somewhere a little less costly, come to the next meeting.
Copy Machine by Julie Narcovich
Also being voted on at this month's meeting is whether we should by the club our own copier machine. We discussed this briefly at the October meeting and how after the first year the copier will have paid for itself and we will end up saving money in the long run. I will be bringing in some information and prices in various copiers. We sure would like your input on this topic.
A Letter From Our President by Art Pawlowski
"Hello everybody. As I write this, the long awaited Columbus Day weekend is now over, the temperature is dropping, and most of us will have our first frost tonight. I don't know about you, but many hundreds of people from the bottle community, myself included, had a great bottle related weekend. Even though e had to endure very wet weather, with continuous rain and wind for two days, we had a couple of excellent events to participate in.
"Saturday I made it to the Hecklers' home for the live auction and tailgate party. It was well worth the ride. Along the way I stopped at two yardsales, one planned and one unexpected. Excellent pickings at both. I scored a creamer, a great milk that my wife fell in love with, two pieces of marked stoneware, Rhode Island bottles, and even a Connecticut bitters for 10¢. I normally don't discuss what I pay for bottles, but a bitters for 10¢? Totally unbelievable! That will never happen again.
"Arriving at the tailgate party shortly after 9:00 am with two long rows of dealers set up, I made a couple of quick passes and managed to buy a nice spring water for my collection. My friend Dennis moved hi vehicle for me and I was able to set up.
"As the rain picked up we all packed up our glass for the 11:00 am live auction starting inside the barn. Excellent merchandise. The bidding was fast and furious. Unfortunately, I am on a budget so I didn't go home with a truck full of demi johns. Maybe next year.
"The following day was the Keene show. It was a long day, on the road at 3:45 am and back home at 7:00 pm. but I had a great time. Lots of familiar faces and the crowd was huge for most of the day. My sales were average, but I traded and had fun! That;s what this hobby is all about. Today was recovery day. Till next year.
"Moving on to new business, the Little Rhody Bottle Show is now half sold out so club members get your checks and contracts in the mail. We only have 50 tables.
"Suggestions are needed for our Christmas party. We do have a place in mind but it is $35 per person. Comments?
"Take it easy."
Arthur Pawlowski
