The iPunty Rod Internet Newsletter Of The Little Rhody Bottle Club

September 2000

This page is updated around the 1st week of every month

The next meeting of the LRBC will be held on September 12th at 7:30 p.m. at the Pontiac Library, Greenwich Ave., Warwick, RI

The program for the evening will be a presentation on "Outhouses" by Virginia Williams. Ms. Williams put on this program last year and it turned out to be so popular that we've asked her back for an encore presentation. If you missed it last year, now is your chance to see a truly wonderful program. Don't miss it! The regular meeting will immediately follow the program and the Show and Tell topic will be "Summer Finds." What treasures did you amass over the summer? Bring 'em on down!

June Meeting
This is where I usually go over everything from the last meeting but that was already taken care of in the July iPunty Rod. I guess you'll just have to click on the link below and refresh your memories!

I got an email from Steve Bessette of Cranston who is a rejoined LRBC member. He reported three items which he couldn't find in the book. Here's his note:

My name is Steve Bessette, a new member (June) who was also an old member back in the late 70's. I finally sat down for a tour of our website. I'm really in awe of you guys! The site is inspiring, informative and fun. I joined through Steve Bergquist and immediately bought the book Antique Bottles Of Rhode Island and what a revelation IT was! Don't know how you did it, but it is one excellent research tool. I'm pleased to be a part of such a happening organization.
As you can imagine, I've been frantically searching for RI bottles since then, and have managed to come up with a few I didn't see in the book or in the online New Finds section (LOVE IT). So, here goes:

1. Dose Glass embossed: MASON B. WOOD / APOTHECARY / WATCHEMOKET R.I.
Back: TABLE / DESSERT / SPOON (dosage lines engraved rest embossed)
2 1/2"
clear

2. A BIMAL Blobtop Beer embossed: MORITZ H. MEYER / PROVIDENCE / R.I.

On back: TB / NTBS (in oval slugplate)
On bottom/base: XVIII N K. HUTTER N.Y.
Aqua
91/2"
w/sealed contents (looks like a REAL old Guinness)

3. NASONVILLE BOTTLING CO. / WESTERN HOTEL / NASONVILLE RI

BIMAL Crown top
reddish amber
9 1/2"
Neat thing about this one is that under the NASONVILLE BOTTLING CO. legend you can see the partially obliterated legend McMANUS & MEADE.

Also found a SNOW & MASON CROUP & COUGH with a cardboard tube that slips over the bottle and has the label on it. An efficient way to ship these cylindrical types. This one also has original contents. I had never seen this type of packaging before.

Thanks for lending an ear and for all you do to make LRBC so much FUN.

Steve Bessette, 100 Summer St., Cranston.

Thanks to Steve for his email. I've already added his "new finds" to the online book so skip on over there and check it out!
Steve also has what I think is one of the coolest email addresses: aliendiner@aol.com. I've added his to the Dealers, Collectors, & Sites of Interest page on our site and if you'd like to add yours to the page email me at oaklawn@eathlink.net and I'll put you on it! You don't have to be a member to get on the page, just have an interest related to the bottle and collectible hobby.
