Club News

New Member by Pam Sroka
Over the summer we did get a new member and hopefully he'll be able to attend the September meeting. The Little Rhody Bottle Club would like to welcome Dennis Gillis of Cumberland. Dennis collects fruit jars and a really nice collection he has! We met him over the summer after he bid on a jar Arthur was selling on eBay. We hope you'll enjoy the meetings!

Former Member Hails From Florida by Pam Sroka
Some of you may remember Leslie Cedercrans. She emailed Arthur last week and said she's doing fine but the bottle collecting is on hold for now. She says, "Hello!" to all of you and wants Pearl to know that she's thinking of her. Should she ever come back up to New England, I'm sure she'll stop by.

Librarian Needed by Pam Sroka
The club needs a volunteer to supervise and maintain the club's library books at the meetings. If no one in particular wants the job then we may have to do this with each of us taking turns. It's not a hard job but someone really is needed to make sure things are handled properly.
Also, the Show Committee will need to have a meeting soon. Open your date books and find an open space for this one. We can have it at our house or stay after one of the regular meetings.

Club Cookout by Pam Sroka
It was a beautiful day, a spectacular day, to be exact. Our very gracious hosts were Stanley and Hope Sorrentino. They shared their homes and a bit of their lives with us all. Stanley took us on a tour of the town while Hope and Joanne Norton stayed behind and waited for late arrivals. The ocean and good people must do something to the soul and mind that makes it all so calm and relaxing. I can only say these are two wonderful, generous people who have reason to be smiling all of the time. I'm sure I can speak for all who came that day when I say we too had a reason to smile. It was a wonderful time and we thank Stanley and Hope for a splendid time.

2002 Show Contracts
It was reported that the contracts for the LRBC 2002 show would be in the September newsletter but they weren't. If you are planning to set up at the show, please attend the September meeting to get a contract. DO NOT ASSUME YOU WILL GET A TABLE BECAUSE YOU ARE A MEMBER OR HAD A TABLE LAST YEAR. Tables are offered to club members first but you must reserve and do it quickly as all tables are sold out within a month's time.
If you have a special preference as to where you'd like to be set up, please let Arthur know when you make your reservations.

A Rumford Club? by Dave Andrews
Over the summer I've had a number of people from different parts of the country contact me asking if there was a dedicated website for collectors of Rumford Chemical Works items. Right now there is no such site that I'm aware of. The bug was planted when a couple of people asked if I would develope the site but there needs to be enough interest to warrant the undertaking The site would be a place for gathering and sharing of information, displaying collections and new finds, selling and trading of Rumford only items, and pretty much anything else Rumford related.
What do you think? Because we live in the state that gave birth to the Rumford Chemical works and, because it was this club who chose the teal Rumford bottle as the unofficial state bottle diplayed in the National Bottle Museum in NY, would such a site be beneficial to the collectors interested in the company?
I need your feedback on this. Do you or don't you think a site would be a good idea? Send me an email at oaklawn@earthlink.net and put in your two cents.

In Memory
We lost two more long time club members over the summer. Al Sparrow, who was a familiar sight at the Little Rhody show, and Dr Richard Femino passed away a couple of months ago. Our sympathy and condolences are extended to Dot Sparrow and Amalia Femino on their losses.
