Mrs. Sarah Baxter was listed
as an Indian Doctress at 23 Bark Street at the
corner of Stevens Street in Providence circa
1857.
Throughout the mid nineteenth
century she was the proprietor of Mrs. Baxter's
Indian Healing Balm, an internal and external
remedy that cured many diseases such as rheumatism,
sore throat, diptheria, consumption, and more. She
also put out Liver Pills, a Liver Syrup, a Cough
and Croup Syrup, and a Tea Syrup which was for the
lungs.

In 1878, Mrs. Baxter became a
registered physician and began putting out an
Indian Bitters which she claimed was, "... a spring
and summer drink which could not be
surpassed."
Mrs. Baxter passed away in
1882, evidently leaving no one to continue the
manufacture of her products.
