H. H. Burrington

Henry H. Burrington started as a druggist at 151 High Street in Providence circa 1844. By 1847 he had become a chemist and apothecary at the sign of the Golden Mortar which was located at 121 High Street. He sold many different items including Dr. Nichold's Celebrated Sarsaparilla, put up in bottles for 75¢ each. He also prepared and sold his own superior Elastic Sponge Blacking (for boots, rubbers, harnesses, etc.), and The Chemical Polish (for brass and other metals).

A few years later he was also manufacturing , wholesaling, and retailing drugs, medicines, perfumes, inks, etc. at 21-60 North Main Street, Providence, at the sign of the Great Mortar. He became proprietor of Burrington's Bouquet of Paradise, which was
an exquisite perfume for the handkerchief, Dr. Wadsworth's Dry Up, for the catarrh, Burrington's Vegetable Croup Syrup, for coughs, colds, etc., Odontige, an elegant dentrifice for the teeth, and many other medicinal as well as cosmetic items. He also dealt in corrective braces and trusses, and pharmaceutical instruments of all types.
 
Burrington became a registered pharmacist in 1872 and remained so until his death in 1885.
