Albert L. Calder

Albert L. Calder ran an apothecary shop at 151 Westminister Street in Providence in 1852. He also dealt in drugs, medicines, chemicals, perfumes, brushes, Congress waters, soda syrups, and cigars. He moved to 163 Westminister in 1863, and by 1867 had begun manufacturing his own CALDER'S SAPONACEOUS DENTINE.

In 1872 Calder became a registered pharmacist and by 1886 had quit the apothecary business and opened an office and laboratory at 181-183 North Main Street, putting out his dentine only.

In 1902 the company became the Albert L. Calder Co. with Charles A. Calder as manager. It was incorporated in 1908 with the address listed as 183 Main Street.

In 1912 the business was located at 217 Canal Street in Providence and was known as the Albert L. Calder Co. and The Calder Dentine Co. at the same time. By 1921, the firm was known only as The Calder Dentine Co. and was located at 359 Eddy Street, still in Providence. The company reincorporated in 1921 with Samuel A. Everett as president and treasurer, and Herbert C. Miller as secretary. The Calder Dentine Co. ended as a pharmaceutical supply house in 1936-37, finally going out of business in 1938.
