P. Faerber

Peter Faerber was a bottler at Bull's wharf in the rear of 129 Thames Street, Newport, RI in 1879.

Sometime between 1887 and 1890 he quit his bottling business and joined with James S. Hazard & Co. located at 24 Bath Road in Newport.

James S. Hazard & Co. were manufacturing high grade carbonated beverages such as lemon soda, cream soda, tonic beer, pear cider, apple cider, sarsaparilla, raspberry and orange phosphates, birch beer, ginger champagne, mineral water, and other such beverages.

By 1895, Faerber had succeeded Hazard and became sole manufacturer of Hazard's Nerve Tonic and Newport Aromatic Ginger Ale which were distributed throughout the country.

By 1907 the company had become Peter Faerber & Sons (Augustus C. Faerber and Lewis F. Faerber, who were clerks) In 1918 the company was still under the same name but with Anna M. Faerber and Emma F. Faerber also listed as associates in the company. They were then located at 43 Bath Road.

In 1934 the company was bottling Coca Cola at the same address, and in 1947 Augustus and Lewis were listed as treasurer and president respectively. The company was now named the Coca Cola Bottling Co. of Newport and was located at 43 Memorial Boulevard (which was formerly Bath Road).

Peter Faerber claimed to have been established in 1847, but it was James Hazard who was actually established in business that year. Faerber assumed that date when he bought out Hazard in 1895.
