Albert W. Fenner

Albert Fenner, a botanic druggist, was located at 191H High Street in Providence circa 1862.

In 1867 he moved to 211 High Street and in 1871 moved again to 365 High Street.

In 1872 he became a registered pharmacist and was proprietor of such medicines as Fenner's Corn Killer, Fenner's Botanic Cough Syrup, and Fenner's Sarsaparilla Favorite Compound which he claimed to be the best blood purifier known.

In 1877 he put out his Fenner's Nerve Tonic, a new and better drink. It supposedly contained no alcohol or stimulants and was curing thousands of cases of nervous and mental exhaustion, worn out feelings, insomnia, etc., and all for only 24¢ a bottle.

His last listed place of business was at 869 Westminister Street in Providence in 1893 when his son, Albert Jr., a chemist, took over the business and changed it into a chemical laboratory.

It is important to note that on an embossed Fenner's bottle an address of Green Street is listed although no mention of this street is found in the consulted business directories.
