Isaac H. Penno ran the R.I.
Bottling Establishment at the rear of 95 North Main
Street in Providence circa 1854. His son, Jeremiah,
served the company as an agent and his grandson,
Jeremiah, Jr. was used as a helper. Isaac
manufactured his own mineral water and soda waters
until he sold to Samuel J. Esten in
1859.
Esten retained Penno and his
associates until 1866, keeping the business at
Penno's North Main address. Esten began dealing in
cider, ale, and porter before joining up with J. P.
Eddy & Co. One year after the merger, Esten
retired and left the company.
G. W. & W. W. Boynton
succeeded J. P. Eddy & Co. around 1870 and kept
the business at the same address. The Boyntons
manufactured and dealt in all kinds of soda waters,
sarsaparillas, ciders, and various ale and porter
beers.
Wallace W. Boynton took
control over the company in 1874.
