Daniel J. Sullivan and John
F. Sullivan were bottlers and dealers in liquors,
wines, and mineral waters in 1881. Their business
was located at 376 Wickendon Streeet in
Providence.
In 1888, they were bottling
tonic beer, sarsaparilla, birch beer, lemon soda,
and ginger ale and were listed as being in business
at 378 Wickendon Street under the company name The
Sullivan Bros. Steam Bottling Works.
By 1892 they had moved up the
street to 398 Wickendon and were also located at 1
Schofield Street and 62 Ives Street which were also
in Providence. Here they were manufacturing,
wholesaling, and bottling porter, ale, and lager
beers including the Famous Narragansett
lager.
Circa 1897, the company
became known as The Five Sullivan Bros. with Daniel
J., John F., Timothy J., Dennis R., and Eugene D.
as partners. They had an office, salesroom, and
factory at 577 Wickenden Street and were listed as
wholesale dealers of liquors and bottlers of lager
beer and mineral waters. They also had a wholesale
liquor branch in East Providence at 9 Warren
Avenue.
By 1918 the Sullivan Bros.
were no longer in business.
This company is one of only a
half dozen bottling companies in Rhode Island which
used the Hutchinson type bottle to hold some of
their products.
