E. Sutton

Bicknell's Syrup

Edward Sutton was a lumber dealer before he began manufacturing medicinal syrups in his home at 97 Chestnut Street in Providence in 1866. A year later he moved to 18 Wheaton Street where he continued to manufacture syrups and became the proprietor of DR. H. V. BICKNELL'S VEGETABLE Dysentery SYRUP.

The syrup was a speedy cure for dysentery, cholera morbus, diarrhea, bowel complaints, sick or sour stomach, and pain and cramps.

Sutton changed his residence five times during the years of his manufacturing the syrups. This was highly unusual since he always conducted his business at each address, not having a separate steadfast office location.

Following is a list of his residences over a ten year period;

1866-67......97 Chestnut St.

1867-70......18 Wheaton St.

1871-72......73 Charles Field Rd.

1873-74......29 Jenkins St.

1875-76......55 Greenwich Ave.

Evidently Sutton evidently went out of business after 1876 since no more information is available.
